da dobrowin: According to a recent report from the Daily Mail, Schalke are considering making Jonjoe Kenny’s temporary stay in Germany permanent in the ongoing January transfer window.
da pinup bet: The 22-year-old full-back has been impressing his boss over in Germany and his contribution has helped the club to climb into towards the European places in the Bundesliga table, with Kenny playing every game for David Wagner’s constantly improving side, as the same source explains.
Call yourself an Everton expert? How much did each of these January signings cost?
But he is still officially a Toffee despite spending the last year away from his parent club.
Everton, however, currently have a different option for their right-back position in the form of a loanee of their own, Djibril Sidibe, who arrived from Monaco and is supposed to stay in England until the summer.
And this could prove to be a big dilemma for Marcel Brands, the club’s Director of Football, who might have a big decision to make.
Should he go all out to keep Sidibe at the club permanently? Or should he look to save some money and give Kenny the opportunity to make the right-back berth his own?
Statistically speaking, however, Sidibe has been the more effective of the two players so far this season.
It has to be noted, however, that Kenny has tallied more minutes in the ongoing Bundesliga campaign with 1523 as opposed to Sidibe’s 1122, which naturally has impacted their stats so far this season.
Also, all of the statistics were accurate prior to Everton and Schalke’s weekend clashes with West Ham and Borussia Monchengladbach respectively.
We can from the stats that Sidibe is the more effective of the two full-backs when the overall contribution is taken into consideration.
With fewer minutes under his belt, the 27-year-old right-back has averaged an impressive 3.6 tackles and 1.9 interceptions per game, both of which trump Kenny’s 1.5 and 0.8 per game respectively.
Of course, the difference in the leagues they play in should also be taken into consideration and it could be that Everton are more often defensively exposed than Schalke are in the Bundesliga.
Still, Sidibe is also more lethal when going forward and his 0.9 key passes and 0.8 dribbles can attest to that, as they both edge out his rival’s 0.7 key passes and 0.2 dribbles per game.
In the modern game, the full-backs are often tasked to surge forward and provide an attacking outlet and support, and that’s something Sidibe has proven to be effective at this season, with four assists underlining his ability to influence the game in the final third.
The stats do suggest that Everton’s current right-back is the superior of the two players and that could provide Brands with a dilemma to unpick this summer.
