da esport bet: As quoted in The Scottish Sun, Jurgen Klopp has told LFC TV how delighted he is with Rangers target Ryan Kent during Liverpool’s pre-season.
What’s the story?
Steven Gerrard has made no secret of his desire to bring Kent back to Ibrox after a great loan spell at the club last season. The exciting winger scored six times and set up a further nine in his 43 Gers appearances, as he was named the PFA Young Player of the Year in Scotland last term.
However, Klopp’s comments suggest he’s in no rush to let the 22-year-old leave, stating: “Ryan had sensational moments in the Sevilla game – one-on-one situations are his big strength. He is a wonderful kid, a wonderful player.”
The Liverpool manager’s quotes come after the 22-year-old continued to impress in pre-season. The winger has featured in all of his side’s pre-season games so far as he aims to earn a chance at Anfield long-term.
His manager’s comments will be music to the ears of the young wide man but what will they mean to Gerrard and the Rangers fans?
Bad news Bears
It’s not exactly ‘he’s not for sale’, but the comments don’t sound like great news for the Light Blues. Bringing Kent back to the club is clearly something the management really want but with Liverpool in need of some depth behind their mercurial front three, Klopp’s gushing over the player’s abilities is a bad sign.
However, while this may seem like a blow to the club who value the player so highly it’s hardly catastrophic in the big picture. Director of football Mark Allen and Gerrard have moved quickly in the window, bringing in eight new faces to Ibrox ahead of the new season.
Four of the new arrivals (Sheyi Ojo, Jake Hastie, Greg Stewart and Jordan Jones) are capable of thriving on the wing and between them should give the manager a good deal of choice this coming campaign – Kent may not even be needed, for all his success last season.
Yet, none of them are held in as high regard as the Liverpool winger so it’s right that Klopp’s glowing praise might have dampened the mood in and around Ibrox somewhat.
