da bet7k: According to L’Expression, Leicester City forward Islam Slimani wants to leave the King Power Stadium when the January transfer window opens for business.
What’s the story?
da pinup bet: Slimani joined Leicester in a £30m deal from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2016 as the Foxes looked to strengthen following their title win.
The Algerian arrived in England having scored 31 times in 44 appearances for Sporting during the 2015-16 season, but it has not happened for the striker in the Premier League.
He only managed seven Premier League goals last season, and has started just one league game for the Foxes this term after struggling to come to terms with English football.
The 29-year-old, who is valued at £22.5m by transfermarkt.co.uk, has found the back of the net on four occasions in three EFL Cup appearances, however, and his situation could yet change due to the switch in management at the King Power Stadium.
That said, according to L’Expression, Slimani has already made up his mind, and will push for a move away from Claude Puel’s side at the start of 2018.
Should Leicester cut their losses?
Slimani might want to leave, but the striker is contracted to Leicester until the summer of 2021, which places the Foxes in a strong position when it comes to negotiation.
Newcastle United and Watford are both said to be considering a move, although Leicester will reportedly demand almost all of the £30m that they paid Sporting.
It is difficult to address just why Slimani has struggled in English football, especially considering that he struck 57 times in 109 appearances during his time at Sporting.
The Algerian certainly has the physical attributes to play in the Premier League, but his style of football, which relies on passes into feet, has not suited the Foxes.
There will be no shortage of interest in Slimani, but wages could be a problem, with the striker said to be extremely well-paid at the King Power Stadium.
New Leicester boss Puel might well decide to make Slimani a key part of his first XI, but if that does not happen, a move at the start of 2018 might be best for all of those involved.
