It all added up to a 4-0 victory and safe progression into the next round of the FA Cup.
Rashford hadn’t scored in seventeen games and was beginning to struggle on the fringes of the United first team. His confidence boosting cameo against West Ham mid-week seems to have re-energised the teenager.
He came off the bench at the London Stadium on Tuesday night to set-up one of United’s goals and generally spark them into life. Fans were hoping to see him start against Reading and Mourinho delivered, to great effect.
He took his first goal at Old Trafford expertly, knocking it past Ali Al-Habsi with aplomb. A dreadful error by the Reading goalkeeper then allowed Rashford to capitalise and score a tap-in.
