da betcris: Although Manchester United have successfully won both their respective league matches so far in the 2015/16 campaign, Louis van Gaal’s side have looked distinctly disjointed in the final third and particularly weak in front of goal.
da gbg bet: Robin van Persie’s seemingly inevitable departure from Old Trafford certainly signalled the need for LVG to source some extra fire power up-top for his side this season, and with the annual summer transfer window very rarely proving to be plain sailing for those wanting to land a big name striker, the Dutchman’s search has so far proved rather unfruitful.
Despite previously agreeing terms with Barcelona’s Pedro, Manchester United have now reportedly backed out of that particular deal in light of Chelsea’s interest. Nevertheless, Pedro is not the out-and-out front-man the Red Devils require right now, so such a loss ultimately shouldn’t bare too heavy on the minds of the Old Trafford faithful.
In light of such a notion, Van Gaal now has roughly two weeks to complete the marquee signing of a major attacking name this summer, and if he fails Manchester United’s entire 2015/16 campaign could quite possibly end in disaster…
Let it be made clear, this season is going to be an absolutely massive one at Old Trafford. Whatever the outcome of the team’s fate this term, the rest of the English footballing community will have a much clearer picture of just how serious United are about the title race, and whether or not LVG can ultimately do the business in the Premier League.
It’s likely the club will enjoy a positive run in the Champions League this year, but they will also have to maintain – and perhaps even better – their lofty position in the league table throughout 2015/16 .The task issued to LVG at this current stage is serious. The word ‘transition’ can no longer be applied as an excuse at the club, for now is the time for results above anything else.
However, even though the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones hardly provide their side with the most resolute of backlines possible, Manchester United simply won’t succeed this season unless they land a pretty significant name in the centre-forward department.
As it currently stands, Memphis Depay is likely to score goals but will not provide that constant threat for the entire 90 minutes. Javier Hernandez clearly isn’t fancied by Louis van Gaal as a first team regular, and as for Wayne Rooney… the last time that man played as a recognised centre-forward Sir Alex Ferguson was probably still in the dug-out at Old Trafford.
Manchester United therefore have a mini crisis up-top. Such an outcome certainly seems surprising for a club of this stature, particularly when you consider all the money that has been spent at Old Trafford in recent transfer windows. The term ‘sustainability’ obviously doesn’t mean much to the Red Devils boardroom staff in the cold light of day.
So then, with the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Thomas Muller and even Zlatan Ibrahimovic all being linked with a high profile move to United to varying degrees this summer – the talent certainly looks like it’s out there for Van Gaal should he eventually decide to get the chequebook out once again. Each of the aforementioned stars would certainly do a good job at Old Trafford, all things considered.
The most obvious striking target for Manchester United to cast their eye towards, however, is Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema. The talented Frenchman has been the subject of some pretty stringent transfer speculation so far the summer – with the Red Devils going down as just one of the many potential suitors reportedly after the front-man’s services.
Benzema would represent the ideal man to turn Manchester United from promising top-four hopefuls to a seriously potent outfit more than worthy of challenging for the title.
So, although a great deal of transfer related work has already been completed by the club so far this summer – without a recognised centre-forward in place at Old Trafford, Manchester United simply won’t score enough goals to achieve their lofty targets throughout the 2015/16 campaign.
