da poker: Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is hoping to be able to keep veteran Dutch midfielder Boudewijn Zenden at the Stadium of Light beyond the end of the season.
da pixbet: The 33-year-old former Liverpool and Chelsea man has scored twice in 18 appearances for the Black Cats, but Zenden has made just two starts after suffering a number of minor injury niggles.
Bruce told The Chronicle:"Bolo is probably a bit disappointed he hasn't started more. To be fair, when I was looking for him to start games, if I look back at the records, he picked up a couple of niggly injuries.
"That's par for the course at his age and it meant I couldn't play him, but he's done very well and I like to have him involved.
"And the one thing he has helped me with is the development of the young players. If you watch him as an older pro, he's a great pro.
"So I will sit down with him over the next 24, 48 hours and see what he wants to do. I would like to keep him for another year, because he's got something to offer."
Zenden had earlier stated:"I am here to play and I would have liked more minutes on the pitch, but that's the way it goes.
"I signed a one-season contract with the option of a second year. I don't know if I will be staying – we haven't even started to talk about that, so we'll have to see."Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
