da pixbet: It’s still hard to believe Aston Villa are a Championship side this season.
da aviator aposta: Ultimately, they way they performed last term means relegation is exactly what they deserved, but seeing that name down there is still odd. The Villa faithful who will be hoping for an instant return to the top division – back where a club with a European Cup to their name belongs.
Roberto Di Matteo has come into the club and made some big changes. As a Champions League winner with Chelsea he knows how to win games, but the Championship is completely different and it may take a little while to adjust.
They currently sit 16th in the table, which isn’t where they want to be, but what the Villa Park club do have over many of their rivals in the Championship is their name. The Midlands side are a huge part of English football and the prospect of playing for them should attract some more players to help them out before the window shuts.
Here are five we think could soon be on their way…
Abel Hernandez
According to Sky Sports, Villa have launched a £20million move to bring the Hull City man to Villa Park in a move that would make a statement to the rest of the division.
Hernandez was key in the Tigers’ promotion push last season and has already played in the Premier League this year, but with his team’s current issues, a bid like that could prove too hard to turn down.
Albert Adomah
Speculation over Adomah’s future at Middlesbrough has been growing since the start of this season as the winger has found himself out of Aitor Karanka’s plans.
Villa are reportedly interested, but whether a deal or not happens remains to be seen. What is certain, though, is that Adomah is a very good player at Championship level and would at least go some way to returning Villa to the Premier League.
Ravel Morrison
It’s surely only a matter of time before it clicks for Ravel Morrison and he becomes the player many expected him to be.
Coming through the Manchester United youth system with Paul Pogba he had the bigger expectation than the Frenchman, and that tells you all you need to know.
Britt Assombalonga
Villa are clearly looking to add some power up front, and Britt Assombalonga would certainly add just that.
The Nottingham Forest man can be nearly unplayable at this level when in the mood and has started this season in cracking form with three goals in three games. If Villa can prise him away from another fallen giant in Forest, that would be a hugely impressive coup.
Didier Drogba
The joys of the transfer window!
If this one was pulled off it could be the move of the century.
Di Matteo worked with Drogba at Chelsea when they won the Champions League together in 2012, so if there’s any man that could get Drogba to play in the Championship it could be the Italian.
His wages would be outrageous, but surely it would help Villa’s promotion challenge.
