Manchester United are planning to enter the transfer market in January, as they search for a striker and a midfielder to bolster Ruben Amorim's squad.

Per , United are drawing up plans for the January window as they prepare for the arrival of new manager Amorim. The club are interested in signing an affordable striker to help the likes of Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund, as well as a number eight in midfield.

Plettenberg claims that Leon Goretzka is a target for United but that the 29-year-old is unlikely to leave Bayern mid-season. The Germany international has made eight appearances this season but he has yet to start under Vincent Kompany. He is still said to have little interest in making a January move, despite Bayern attempting to sell him in the summer.

United could well target Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres in the summer, after Amorim made it clear that the Sweden international could leave at the end of the season. Gyokeres scored a hat-trick against Manchester City on Tuesday, and the Red Devils may be looking for a stop-gap in the meantime.

Amorim will move to Manchester on November 11 and his first game in charge will come against Ipswich Town on November 24. While they await his arrival, Ruud van Nistelrooy will manage the club against PAOK in the Europa League on Thursday and Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday.
