da bet7k: West Ham boss Sam Allardyce believes his side can capitalise on Liverpool’s joint domestic and European ventures when the two sides meet in the Premier League on Saturday.
da heads bet: Last season’s second-place finish in the Premier League earned Brendan Rodgers’ side automatic qualification to the Champions League, although their first game back in the competition for five years ended with an unconvincing 2-1 victory over Bulgarian minnows Ludogorets Razgrad on Tuesday night .
“I hope it can have an impact on their energy levels and on past history of playing against teams who have played in the Champions League, and having played in Europe with my team at Bolton, I know how difficult it can be in the next Premier League game,” said Allardyce.
With the Reds stuttering to a disappointing home defeat against Aston Villa last weekend, the Irons boss is confident that his team can also produce an upset at Upton Park on Saturday, adding his belief that Liverpool’s involvement in the Champions League may be detrimental to their league campaign.
“Sometimes you may catch the opposition on a bad day and take advantage of it such as Aston Villa at Liverpool for their last result,” Allardyce said.
“That is not taking anything away from how well Villa played on the day but Liverpool I think had the Champions League game on their minds.
“It was their first Champions League game back for many, many years. Maybe that caused a bit of complacency in the performance and Aston Villa took full advantage of it.”
Despite showing great spirit in coming from behind twice in Monday night’s thrilling 2-2 draw with Hull City, the Irons are yet to win at home this season. Though Liverpool can usually be trusted to be formidable opponents for any team in the league, Allardyce is relieved that a certain Uruguayan is no longer running rampant in the Reds’ attack.
“From a selfish point of view, I am happy he [Luis Suarez] has gone when your team comes against him,” the Irons boss said.
“From the Premier League overall, no. Those players you want to keep in this country.
“There has been a huge amount of talent bought by Liverpool on the back of the fee they got from him and perhaps took the stand that on the basis that it was time after the troubles that they had with.
“He is surely missed in terms of his talent in the Premier League but him not playing against us, we are rather glad about that.”
